Barrie has been associated with animals from early childhood and maintained a considerable menagerie much to the despair of his parents and the delight of the local Pet shop owner who always had a home for a one eared rabbit or a three legged tortoise. This love of animals evolved to breeding and exhibiting Old English Sheepdogs with his wife Jean, followed by resigning his Commission in the Australian Army to open a Dog Grooming Business in Hobart and then purchasing what is now Best Friends Pet Resort
Jean has also had a lifetime association with animals from her upbringing on her parents farm at Wilmot in North western Tasmania. She was renown as a young girl for opting not to help Mum in the Kitchen but rather to be out with Dad helping with the animals. Jean has been actively involved in the World of Dog showing since she and Barrie returned from serving in Papua New Guinea in 1975 and is a Licensed Group 5 and 7 Judge at Championship level and Group 6 at Parade level. After over thirty years in the Public Service she recently resigned from her position as Manager of the Hobart Passport Office in the Department of Foreign Affairs to join Barrie full time at Best Friends
Kelvin and his wife Cathy started showing and breeding Shetland Sheepdogs in 1989 and have been associated with the Breed ever since. Now that their adult children Ben and Roxanne have left the nest they share their home at Pontville with their four Shetland Sheepdogs Renee, Lace, Taylor and Frodo and their two cats Jade and Boris.
Jenna has also been brought up in a family with fish, dogs, cats, rabbits and birds. As soon as she was old enough to earn her own money she started saving for her first horse, Destiny. Jenna now has four Horses Oscar, Scruffy, Amber and her new foal Charlotte a Clydesdale cross. Jenna and her partner Julien are in the process of buying land to build a house where the whole "family" can be together. Since joining Best Friends Team Jenna has completed her Pet Care Technician Level One Course and is planning to continue her studies.
